Characters Of The Garden
Like a drama played out before us four actors take center stage.
Adam, Eve, the Snake, God.
In every play there are leading and supporting roles.
The leading role goes to Eve as an emissary of the Garden, the snake the invader.
Adam the supporting role, God the interrogator.
The snake activates the scene.
“Did God say you are not to eat any of the trees of the Garden?”
“Only one lest we die,” reveals Eve.
“You shall not die,” lies the snake.
And then, Eve eats.
She gives to Adam, and he eats.
Death sets in.
The interrogation begins.
“Why have you done this?” God asks Adam.
“The woman You gave me made me do it.”
“And why have YOU done this?” God asks Eve.
“The snake made me do it.”
The blame game.
Human nature at its ‘garden variety’ best.
We just can’t seem to say:
“I have sinned!”
At long last, God does not question the snake.
But the gavel comes down, and the sentence is given.
“Because you have done this you shall crawl on your belly all the days of your life.”
“And in dread you shall be, watching for the heel of Eve’s seed to tread upon your head.”
The victor’s crown goes to Adam.
Whose seed of Eve He is, “Who will crush the serpent’s head,” and grants the prevailing prize to mankind.
Thus the work of “Messiah King” of Whom David speaks in the Psalms.
God is not angry…
…He is merciful.
Only to recover to life those He created to live.
Who is equal to the task?
The Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God, Who created us from the beginning, and Who for our salvation, became man.
Keep the devil on the defensive!
Wear the victor’s crown!
