Clash Of History In The Revelation
THE “END OF THE AGE” was fast approaching.
Thus does Jesus show—in the Gospels—the end of the Temple, the sacrificial system, the Levitical priesthood, with the covenant nation of Israel left desolate.
One age closes, a new one opens up.
The Revelation of St John discloses a juxtaposition of Old Covenant Jewish polity with the New Covenant Kingdom of Jesus Christ:
The destruction of Jerusalem alongside the triumph of The Church is symbolically displayed in The Revelation.
“The day of vengeance is in My heart,” speaks Jesus in Isaiah, “and the year of My redeemed is come.”
The Churches of St John’s Revelation are shown to exist at a turning point in world history with profound cosmic dimensions.
The Revelation is contemporary in essence, not futuristic.
No nuclear bombs, no now-extinct twelve tribes of Israel preaching the Gospel around the globe, no reign of Christ in the earthly Jerusalem, called by John, “Sodom and Egypt.”
Instead:
“These are things which must shortly come to pass,” John opens.
Then warns:
“The time is at hand.”
In case you miss it, John says again in closing, “these are things which must shortly come to pass.”
The contemporary focus of John is bringing awareness to the suffering Church of his day.
He presents the Lord Jesus Christ’s realized divine authority over the opposing unrepentant Jews and the persecuting Roman rulers.
The Lord of Glory ascends His throne, the ungodly rulers resist His authority, persecution of The Church ensues, and the great war of history begins.
The suffering of The Church is not a sign that Jesus abandons His people, rather reveals Himself as king.
If the Lordship of Jesus Christ, His supremacy, His threat to false religion and ungodly political rule is meaningless, the rulers of the world would have no reason to trouble The Church.

Since then, Christ our King, the Lord of Sabaoth, has shepherded His Israel of God-The Ekklesia-The Kyriakon Doma or Household of the LORD—The Church into the New Apostolic Era out into the world preaching the Gospel to the Nations, and going to war with the Prince of the Air and the Spirit of the Age in the ancient Roman world.
That same spiritual war continues to this day, but Christ Conquers All. We Christians were promised 2,000 years ago that we would suffer hardship, persecution, troubles and martyrdom if we were doing the Gospel work correctly in a world at enmity with Almighty God.
