Jesus Empowers Twelve Apostles
The mystery of man’s existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.
This is the motif of the twelve apostles, whose lives, transformed by Jesus Christ, correspondingly changed the world.
By their preaching alone, idolatry—widespread and unbridled—was extinguished.
Churches reached far and wide, and the worship of God was chief.
It began with prayer. [Clip]
“Now it came to pass in those days, that Jesus went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
“When day came, He called His disciples to Him, and chose twelve, who He named apostles.
“Simon, who He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother. James and John, Phillip and Bartholomew, also known as Nathanael.
“Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon, called the zealot.
“Judas, the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who would betray Jesus.”
It was Paul who would later take his place.
How could these men—of an ordinary sort, fishermen, hiding for fear of the religious leaders—suddenly, in a whole change of character, turn the crucifiers into believers, and then take the whole world into their net?
This alone proves the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In these men a Divine power did come to reside, for no human strength could ever effect such high results.
Did they not fight against scorn and dishonor?
For they were accounted as deceivers.
Dd they not fight against ridicule and mockery?
For they were laughed at, called drunkards, punished, struck with stripes, and jailed.
Exposed to factions, conspiracies, fire, sword, wild beasts of the colosseum, yet they still prevailed.
Did not war beset them about from every quarter in ten thousand forms?
Leveled against them were weapons of arbitrary power, terrors of rulers, force of arms, jails, strong walls.
Yet as simple rustics bereft of worldly breath, unarmed, without eloquence of speech, they matched themselves against magistrates, judges, jailers, conjurors, impostors, the whole throng of philosophers, and triumphed.
Plato is silent.
Sporting women before crowds of gazers, proffering their bodies as common to all men, providing children with fathers unknown, society is torn apart by Plato’s pen.
But the preaching of the Twelve, up to this present day, transforms fornicators into chaste men, prostitutes into solitudes, adulterers into faithful husbands, and dissolutes into contemplatives.
The power of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ nerved the Twelve—facing death daily—into intrepid heralds of salvation.
The same in my life.
Born a Jew, raised in the synagogue, ever loyal to my own race, with its prejudices and views.
Aspiring as a Jewish child to the rabbinate, rooted in the religion of my fathers.
Only a Divine power, the power of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, could bring me over to The One I was taught not to embrace in reverent belief.
Glory to Jesus Christ!
For what is impossible with men is possible with God!
Amen
Good to hear your testimony Brother. Helps balance things out for listeners.
Great message Brother.
THIS is powerful. The GOSPEL is the POWER of God unto salvation. When you speak on this, it’s DYNAMITE! Donation sent.
You are right, Brother Nathanael. The way the Apostles were suddenly energized out of their fear and from their hiding, following the crucifixion, is absolute proof of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. They all (but one) went to their martyrdom and did not recant. No human would have endured that if it was not the truth. Christianity also has another proof of the Resurrection of Christ in the Holy Shroud of Turin. These two proofs of the Resurrection also prove that Christianity is the Truth. Jesus is the Messiah for everybody and all Jews have to accept Him as such for their salvation, just as you did.
I remember the late Gene Scott in his message about the resurrection using this as one of its proofs.
